Riyadh Air Metropolitano
The Estadio Cívitas Metropolitano is the modern home of Atlético de Madrid, situated in the San Blas-Canillejas district of Madrid. Opened on 16 September 2017, the stadium replaced the club's beloved Estadio Vicente Calderón, which had served as Atlético's home for over 50 years. With a capacity of 68,456, it is the second-largest stadium in Madrid and one of the finest arenas in Spanish football. Its striking circular design, featuring a wave-shaped roof and a vibrant red-and-white colour scheme, reflects the identity and passion of the club it represents.
The Metropolitano quickly established itself as a major European venue, hosting the 2019 UEFA Champions League final between Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur, won 2–0 by Liverpool. That occasion drew a global television audience of hundreds of millions and announced the stadium to the world. On the domestic front, it has been the stage for many memorable Atlético performances under Diego Simeone, including title-winning celebrations and memorable European nights. The record attendance at the Metropolitano stands at around 68,000, regularly achieved during high-profile La Liga and Champions League fixtures.
Beyond its sporting significance, the Metropolitano is designed as a multi-purpose venue, hosting concerts, events, and serving as a community hub for the east of Madrid. The stadium's location — close to the Madrid-Barajas Airport and the IFEMA convention centre — makes it one of the most accessible major arenas in Spain. For Atlético supporters, it represents not just a stadium but a fortress, carrying forward the fiery spirit that made the old Calderón so beloved.
