Stade Océane
The Stade Oceane is the modern home of Le Havre AC, located on Boulevard de Leningrad in Le Havre, a major port city in the Seine-Maritime department of Normandy. The stadium holds 25,181 spectators and opened in September 2012, replacing the old Stade Jules Deschaseaux that had been the club's home since 1922. Designed to evoke the maritime heritage of Le Havre, the ground's distinctive wave-shaped roof is visible from across the harbour area and has become one of the city's most recognisable modern landmarks. The stadium was built as part of a broader urban regeneration project for Le Havre's harbour district and is considered one of France's most architecturally successful recent sporting venues.
Le Havre AC hold a unique historical distinction in French football: they are the oldest professional football club in France, having been founded in 1872 by British sailors and merchants working in the port, making them one of the earliest football clubs in continental Europe. The club played a foundational role in spreading football throughout France and has a heritage that predates the formation of most European football institutions. More recently, Le Havre's academy has produced some of world football's most celebrated talents, including Riyad Mahrez, Paul Pogba, and Lassana Diarra, establishing the Normandy port club as one of France's most respected academies despite their modest first-team profile.
The Stade Oceane's modern design provides excellent facilities for players, officials, and supporters, with good sight lines from all four covered stands and a colourful, vibrant matchday atmosphere. Le Havre's return to Ligue 1 in 2023 brought top-flight football back to one of France's most historically significant football cities, and the Oceane became a regular Ligue 1 venue for the first time. The club's maritime connections, Norman heritage, and extraordinary talent production legacy make Le Havre one of French football's most respected institutions, and the Stade Oceane provides the modern stage their history deserves.
