Coliseum Alfonso Pérez
The Coliseum Alfonso Pérez is the home of Getafe CF, located in the city of Getafe, just south of Madrid in the Comunidad de Madrid. Opened on 8 August 1998, the stadium was named in honour of Alfonso Pérez Muñoz, a Getafe-born striker who enjoyed a successful career in Spanish football. It currently holds approximately 17,700 spectators, making it one of the smaller grounds in La Liga, though it regularly creates a fierce, tight atmosphere on matchdays.
Despite its modest size, the Coliseum has been the stage for Getafe's remarkable rise through Spanish football. The club spent much of the 20th century in the lower divisions before winning promotion to La Liga in 2004, and the Coliseum became a first-division venue for the first time. Since then, Getafe have established themselves as a regular La Liga side and even qualified for European football, with the stadium hosting UEFA Europa League matches — a remarkable achievement for a club from a city of this size.
The record attendance at the Coliseum stands at approximately 17,000, with El Clásico de la Carretera de Toledo — the derby with neighbouring Leganés — generating particularly intense atmospheres. The ground underwent expansion in the early 2000s as the club grew. Functional and unspectacular in design, the Coliseum nevertheless embodies the gritty, determined identity of Getafe CF — a club that has consistently defied expectations in Spanish football's top flight.
