Craven Cottage

London, Stevenage Road 25,700 capacity

Craven Cottage is the enchanting home of Fulham Football Club, located on Stevenage Road beside the River Thames in the Fulham area of south-west London. The stadium holds 25,700 spectators and is one of the most visually distinctive and historically significant grounds in English football. Parts of the site date back to the 1780s, when the area was woodland, and football has been played here since 1896. Fulham moved into Craven Cottage in that year and have been there ever since, making it one of the most enduring club-ground relationships in the country.

The ground takes its name from a cottage that originally stood on the site - a hunting lodge built for Anne Boleyn which later became a fashionable retreat. The famous Pavilion, a Grade II listed building designed by Archibald Leitch in 1905, still stands at the corner of the Stevenage Road and Hammersmith End stands and is used as changing rooms and offices. Craven Cottage's location along the Thames Embankment, with the river visible from the upper tiers, gives it an almost unique character among professional football grounds. The Johnny Haynes Stand, also a Leitch design, is another listed structure forming part of the ground's protected heritage.

Fulham undertook major expansion works completed in 2024, developing the Riverside Stand along the Thames to significantly increase capacity and add premium facilities. The new stand brings the total capacity to 25,700 while maintaining the ground's intimate atmosphere and relationship with the river. The expanded Craven Cottage is considered one of the most beautiful modern football grounds in England, combining heritage architecture with contemporary design. It remains a much-loved venue both within English football and among tourists visiting London.
