The Coventry Building Society Arena

Coventry, Phoenix Way, Rowleys Green 32,609 capacity

Coventry City FC plays at the Coventry Building Society Arena (CBS Arena), located in the Rowleys Green area of Coventry, a major city in the West Midlands. The stadium opened in 2005 with a capacity of 32,609 spectators and was the first purpose-built football and arena complex in England, featuring a retractable roof over one end which allows it to also serve as an indoor entertainment venue. After years of groundsharing at Villa Park and Birmingham City's St Andrew's — a deeply controversial period for the club and its supporters — Coventry City finally returned to their own purpose-built home stadium in 2021, ending an era of displacement that had tested the loyalty of the Sky Blues fanbase to its limits.

Coventry City's most celebrated era was in the 1980s when they competed in the First Division and won the FA Cup in 1987, defeating Tottenham Hotspur 3–2 in one of Wembley's most dramatic finals — the club's only major trophy. Highfield Road, the club's previous home which they vacated in 2005, witnessed those top-flight years and European competition in the UEFA Cup, while the CBS Arena has hosted the club's more recent Championship campaigns. The arena hosted matches during the 2012 Olympics football tournament, bringing international football to Coventry and confirming the venue's multi-purpose credentials.

The CBS Arena's design reflects the dual-purpose ambitions of its developers — it functions as a concert and events venue when not hosting football, with the indoor section accommodating major productions. This commercial flexibility has helped ensure the arena's financial sustainability. Coventry City's return to their own ground after years of nomadic existence was greeted with enormous relief and celebration by the fanbase, and the stadium now provides a modern, well-equipped home as the club pursues its ambitions of returning to the top flight for the first time since their relegation from the Premier League in 2001.
