Team History

CF Estrela da Amadora – Club History

CF Estrela da Amadora was founded in 1932 in Amadora, a municipality adjacent to Lisbon that is essentially part of the greater Lisbon metropolitan area. Playing in red and white, Estrela (The Star) have a proud history in Portuguese football, including multiple Primeira Liga seasons and a Portuguese Cup victory in 1990. The club's Estádio José Gomes has hosted top-flight Portuguese football, and Estrela's return to the Primeira Liga in 2023 after many years away was a celebrated achievement for the Amadora community and for Portuguese football's broader competitive landscape.

Estrela's 2023 promotion to the Primeira Liga ended a 20-year absence from Portuguese football's top tier and was achieved with the support of passionate Amadora supporters who had remained loyal through the long years of lower-division competition. Their cup victory in 1990 and the subsequent Liga campaigns represent the golden era in the club's history, and the modern return to top-flight football aims to recapture some of that era's quality.
