Lerkendal Stadion
Rosenborg BK, the most decorated club in Norwegian football history, plays at Lerkendal Stadion, located in Trondheim, Norway's third-largest city and historic capital of the Vikings. The stadium was opened in 2002 following a significant reconstruction, replacing the original Lerkendal from 1947, and has a capacity of 21,402 spectators, making it one of the largest football-specific stadiums in Norway. Trondheim is a city of great historical significance — home to Nidaros Cathedral, the burial site of Norway's kings — and Rosenborg's stadium has hosted some of the most dramatic moments in Norwegian and Scandinavian football history.
Rosenborg BK's European exploits are legendary in Scandinavian football. During the 1990s and early 2000s, the club qualified for the UEFA Champions League multiple times and performed extraordinarily well against Europe's elite. Their 1996–97 Champions League campaign, when Rosenborg topped a group containing AC Milan and FC Barcelona — winning both home and away against the Spanish giants — remains one of the most astonishing achievements in Scandinavian football history. Lerkendal Stadion was filled to capacity for those European nights, generating an electric atmosphere that impressed across the continent. The club has also won the Norwegian Eliteserien championship 26 times, establishing an extraordinary domestic dominance.
Lerkendal Stadion is one of Norway's most impressive football venues, with modern facilities including covered seating on all sides, excellent sight lines, and facilities appropriate for UEFA competition. The stadium has hosted Norwegian national team matches and serves as the flagship venue for football in Trøndelag, the central Norwegian region of which Trondheim is the heart. Rosenborg's passionate supporter base — the "Kjernen" ultras group is one of Scandinavia's most committed fan organisations — ensures that Lerkendal generates a consistently impressive atmosphere. The combination of Rosenborg's glorious history and their quality stadium makes Lerkendal one of the essential venues on any Scandinavian football tour.
