Odense BK – Club History
Odense Boldklub was founded in 1887 in Odense, Denmark's third-largest city on the island of Funen. One of Denmark's oldest and most respected football clubs, OB – as they are universally known – have built an impressive record of domestic success while representing the distinct cultural identity of Funen and its capital city. Playing in white and blue stripes, Odense BK have won the Danish Superliga on three occasions and the Danish Cup on nine times, making them one of Denmark's most decorated clubs in cup competition history.
OB's history spans the amateur and pre-professional era of Danish football, through to the modern Superliga competition established in 1991. The club's founding in 1887 makes them one of the oldest clubs in Danish football, and their consistent presence in Denmark's top division across multiple eras reflects the organisational strength and community support that has sustained them. Their Funen identity – distinct from Copenhagen's clubs and the Jutland clubs – gives OB a unique character in Danish football.
Superliga Championships
Odense BK have won the Danish Superliga in 1977, 1982, and 1986 (and previously the Danish championship in the pre-Superliga era). Their three titles represent their finest domestic achievements and each generated significant celebration across Funen. The club has been a consistent European participant through their cup successes, with their nine Danish Cup victories making them Denmark's most successful cup team. These European campaigns have given OB regular continental experience and helped the club develop players who have gone on to represent Denmark internationally.
Danish Cup Record
OB's nine Danish Cup victories make them the most successful team in the competition's history. These cup triumphs have provided European qualification through the UEFA Cup and Europa League on multiple occasions, giving the club regular continental experience. The Danish Cup has always been a competition where OB have risen to the occasion, and their record in the knockout format reflects the club's quality and competitive spirit when prize of European football is at stake.
Nature Energy Park
Odense BK play at the Nature Energy Park (formerly known as the TREFOR Park or Fionia Park) in Odense. The stadium holds approximately 15,800 supporters and has been progressively modernised over the years. Located in the centre of Odense, the ground is easily accessible for fans from across Funen and serves as a genuine community hub for football in the island region. On Superliga matchdays and European occasions, the stadium generates a warm, passionate atmosphere that reflects OB's status as Funen's flagship football club.
Legendary Players
Odense BK has produced and developed many Danish international footballers. Hans Henrik Andersen was an important figure of the championship era. Peter Kjær was a quality goalkeeper who gave long service. In the modern Superliga era, players like Mads Frøkjær-Jensen have shown the continued quality of OB's youth development. Rasmus Falk began his professional career at OB before starring at FC Copenhagen. Goalkeeper Sten Michael Grytebust gave excellent service. Martin Braithwaite, later of Barcelona, had early career connections to the Danish football system that OB represents.
