Servette FC – Club History

Servette FC was founded in 1890 in the Servette district of Geneva, making it one of Switzerland's oldest and most storied football clubs. The Grenats – named for their distinctive pomegranate red colour – have won the Swiss Super League on 17 occasions, placing them among Switzerland's most decorated clubs. Based in Geneva, one of Europe's great international cities and home to numerous international organisations, Servette have long been the footballing institution of French-speaking Switzerland, representing the Romandy region's distinct cultural identity within the Swiss football landscape.

Servette's long history in Swiss football includes championship victories across multiple eras, from their early titles at the dawn of the twentieth century through to more recent successes. The club's connection to Geneva's cosmopolitan, international character has always attracted quality players and given Servette a reputation for attractive football. Their most recent Super League title came in 2023–24, ending a 25-year championship drought and generating enormous celebration across Geneva and French-speaking Switzerland.

Swiss Super League Titles

Servette's 17 Swiss Super League championships span over a century of Swiss football history. Their most recent title in 2023–24 was particularly celebrated as it ended a long wait for domestic glory and confirmed the club's successful rebuilding under president René Weiler. Previous championship eras in the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s represented periods of real quality, and the club has also won the Swiss Cup on multiple occasions, providing regular European competition through the decades.

Stade de Genève

Servette play at the Stade de Genève (also known as the Stade de la Praille) in the Praille district of Geneva. The stadium holds approximately 30,000 supporters and is one of Switzerland's larger football venues. The ground has hosted Swiss national team matches and was a venue for UEFA Euro 2008. Geneva's international character means that Servette's matchdays attract supporters from across the French-speaking world, and the stadium creates an excellent atmosphere on big European occasions and championship-deciding matches.
