MKM Stadium
Hull City AFC plays at the MKM Stadium (formerly KCOM Stadium and Hull City Stadium), located in the Walton Street area of Kingston upon Hull, a major port city on the Humber estuary in the East Riding of Yorkshire. The stadium opened in December 2002 with a capacity of 25,400 spectators, replacing Boothferry Park which had served the club since 1946. The MKM Stadium — named after insurance company MKM Building Supplies — was purpose-built as a modern venue and also serves as the home of Hull FC rugby league club, making it one of England's notable examples of successful football and rugby league ground-sharing.
Hull City's most celebrated era came after their promotion to the Premier League in 2008, when the club reached the FA Cup final in 2014 — their first in the club's history — losing 3–2 to Arsenal after extra time in a dramatic Wembley encounter. The club led 2–0 after eight minutes of that final, and their run to Wembley generated extraordinary excitement in Hull and across the East Riding. Premier League football at the MKM Stadium attracted major clubs and international stars, with the venue proving its quality as a top-flight English football ground. The club also participated in the UEFA Europa League, bringing continental competition to Hull.
The MKM Stadium has been home to Hull City through significant fluctuations in their fortunes — from Premier League to League One and back again — and the passionate Hull fanbase has demonstrated remarkable loyalty through these oscillations. The stadium's location in Hull, a city with a proud maritime and fishing heritage that has faced significant economic challenges since the decline of the fishing industry, gives it particular community importance. As Hull City works towards Premier League promotion under their Egyptian ownership, the MKM Stadium provides a well-established Championship venue that has already proven it can host top-flight English and European football.
