Tele2 Arena
Hammarby IF plays at Tele2 Arena, a modern multipurpose stadium located on Johanneshov island in Södermalm, Stockholm. Opened in 2013 with a capacity of 30,000 spectators, Tele2 Arena was purpose-built as a replacement for the old Råsundastadion in Solna, which was demolished after the new venue opened. The stadium is owned by Stockholm city council and serves both Hammarby and rivals Djurgårdens IF as their shared home ground, creating an unusual arrangement that occasionally results in significant scheduling challenges but reflects the pragmatic Swedish approach to major public infrastructure. The naming rights are held by telecom company Tele2.
Hammarby IF is one of Sweden's most passionately supported clubs, drawing a devoted fanbase particularly from Stockholm's working-class southern districts. The club's supporter culture — characterised by the "Bajen Fans" organisation and their boisterous presence in the Tele2 Arena — is among the most vibrant in Swedish football. Hammarby have won the Swedish championship twice (1975 and 2001) and the Swedish Cup on multiple occasions, but their greatest recent achievement has been their ownership transformation: in 2016, former Sweden international footballer and businessman Zlatan Ibrahimović became a minority owner, bringing significant media attention and commercial interest to the club.
Tele2 Arena is one of Scandinavia's finest multi-purpose venues, regularly hosting concerts, major sporting events, and cultural occasions alongside football. The stadium hosted several matches during UEFA Euro 2016 qualifying and has served as a venue for Swedish national team matches. Its modern facilities, including excellent concession areas, comprehensive accessibility, and high-quality pitch, make it one of the most comfortable grounds in Swedish football. Stockholm derbies between Hammarby and Djurgården at the Tele2 Arena are among Allsvenskan's most anticipated fixtures, with the shared ground creating an unusual but passionately contested local rivalry atmosphere.
