FCV Dender – Club History

FCV Dender EH (Football Club Vlaamse Ardennen Dender East & Haeltert) is a professional football club based in the Dender region of East Flanders, Belgium. The club's full name reflects its origins as a merged entity representing communities on both banks of the Dender river. Founded in its modern form in 1991, following the merger of several local clubs from Aalst and the surrounding area, Dender have slowly climbed through the Belgian football pyramid.

For most of their history, Dender competed in the lower amateur and semi-professional divisions of Belgian football. Their rise through the ranks accelerated in the early 2020s, and they won promotion to the Belgian First Division B (the second tier) in 2022, and then made football history by winning the First Division B championship in 2023–24 to earn promotion to the Belgian Pro League for the first time in the club's history.

Pro League Era & Titles

FCV Dender made their historic Pro League debut in the 2024–25 season, becoming the latest club to experience top-flight football for the first time. Their promotion was a remarkable achievement for a club built primarily on community resources and smart development. The 2023–24 First Division B title was their first major honour. Competing in the Pro League represents an incredible achievement for a club that was in the amateur divisions not many years ago, and represents the aspiration of smaller Belgian clubs to reach the top flight.

Stadium

Dender play at the Aqua-Sana Stadium in Denderleeuw, a modest but community-focused ground with a capacity of approximately 8,000. The stadium has been upgraded as the club progressed through the divisions, and further investments have been made to meet Pro League requirements. The ground represents the heart of the local community and provides an intimate atmosphere for home matches. Average attendances have grown significantly as the club has progressed, with the new Pro League status expected to increase interest and support further.

Most Famous Players

Given their recent rise from the lower divisions, FCV Dender's most prominent players are those from their promotion campaigns. Nicolas Rajsel has been one of their key performers. Goalkeeper Davy Roef came to the club and provided experienced goalkeeping. Ben Manga, Florent Mollet, and various other players with Belgian and European experience have contributed to the club's recent success.
