Team History

Queen of the South FC – Club History

Queen of the South Football Club was founded in 1919 in Dumfries, the largest town in south-west Scotland. The club takes its poetic name from a biblical reference to Dumfries – "Queen of the South" was a nickname given to the town in the nineteenth century. Playing in blue and white, the Doonhamers – a local dialect term for the people of Dumfries – have competed in Scottish football's top two divisions across their century of existence. Queen of the South are the southernmost professional football club in Scotland, serving a large rural community across Dumfries and Galloway.

Queen of the South's finest achievement came in the 2007–08 season, when they reached the Scottish Cup final under manager Gordon Chisholm, defeating Aberdeen and other top-flight clubs en route to Hampden Park. They lost 3–2 to Rangers in a dramatic final that went to extra time, but the journey was celebrated as one of the most remarkable cup runs in recent Scottish football history. The club's ability to reach a major final while competing in the First Division demonstrated the quality of their organisation and the ambition of their player recruitment during that exceptional season.

Palmerston Park

Queen of the South have played at Palmerston Park since 1919, a compact stadium in Dumfries that holds approximately 8,000 supporters. The ground has served as the home of Dumfries football for over a century and has hosted top-flight Scottish football during the club's various Premiership appearances. Palmerston Park generates a warm, community atmosphere that reflects the close bond between the club and the rural south-west Scotland communities it represents. The stadium has been modestly developed over the decades while retaining its traditional Scottish football character.
