FC Luzern – Club History
FC Luzern was founded in 1901 in Luzern (Lucerne), a picturesque city in central Switzerland on the shores of Lake Lucerne and at the foot of Mount Pilatus. The club has competed in the Swiss Super League for most of its existence and has built a proud identity as the football institution of central Switzerland's most scenic city. Playing in blue and white, Luzern have won the Swiss Super League once (2012) and the Swiss Cup on three occasions, and their Swissporarena provides one of Switzerland's finest modern football settings against a backdrop of mountains and lake.
Luzern's 2012 Swiss Super League title was the defining achievement in the club's modern history, ending a long domestic drought and qualifying the club for the UEFA Champions League qualifying rounds. The championship was achieved under coach Rolf Fringer with a squad containing quality Swiss and international players, and it generated enormous celebration in a city whose support for the club is passionate and loyal. The club's Swiss Cup victories have added further European competition through UEFA Cup and Europa League participation.
Swissporarena
FC Luzern play at the Swissporarena, a modern stadium opened in 2011 with a capacity of approximately 17,000 supporters. Replacing the older Allmend Stadion, the Swissporarena is one of Switzerland's finest modern football venues, with excellent facilities and a stunning alpine backdrop. The stadium has hosted Champions League qualifying matches and Europa League games, giving Luzern an international-standard venue that reflects the club's ambitions and the city's willingness to invest in sporting infrastructure.
