MHPArena

Stuttgart, Mercedesstraße 87 60,449 capacity

The MHPArena is the home of VfB Stuttgart, situated at Mercedessstrasse 87 in the Bad Cannstatt district of Stuttgart, Baden-Wurttemberg. The stadium holds 60,449 spectators for domestic fixtures and has been VfB's home since 1933 in various forms, with the current structure representing decades of incremental development and redevelopment. Originally called the Neckarstadion, then the Gottlieb-Daimler-Stadion, the ground was renamed the Mercedes-Benz Arena before adopting the MHPArena name in 2022 following a naming rights deal with the management consultancy MHP. The stadium was one of the venues for the 2006 FIFA World Cup, hosting several group stage and knockout matches.

VfB Stuttgart are one of Germany's most storied clubs with five Bundesliga titles, and the stadium has been the backdrop for some of German football's most celebrated moments. The 1949-50 season marked their first national title, and the ground has witnessed multiple championship campaigns since. The 1989 UEFA Cup final first leg was played here, and the stadium was also a key venue for Euro 1988. Under coach Armin Veh, Stuttgart won the 2006-07 Bundesliga title in one of the competition's most dramatic final-day climaxes, celebrated in front of a packed MHPArena. The ground also staged matches at Euro 2024 and continues to host Stuttgart's return to Champions League competition.

The MHPArena underwent substantial redevelopment for the 2006 World Cup, with all stands becoming fully covered and the addition of a partial retractable roof. Further modernisation works have been carried out in subsequent years. The stadium holds 60,449 for Bundesliga matches, including standing areas in the north and south stands, but is reduced to around 54,000 for UEFA competitions. Stuttgart's recent resurgence under Alexander Zorniger and subsequently Giovanni van Bronckhorst and Sebastian Hoeness has brought Champions League football back to the ground, and the atmosphere for European nights has reestablished it as one of the Bundesliga's great venues.
