Alanyaspor – Club History
Alanyaspor was founded in 1948 in Alanya, a picturesque resort town on the Turkish Mediterranean coast in Antalya province. One of the most remarkable stories in recent Turkish football, Alanyaspor rose from obscurity to the Turkish Süper Lig and achieved consistent top-half finishes that qualified the club for European competition – an extraordinary achievement for a club from a coastal tourist resort of under 300,000 people. Playing in red and orange stripes, Alanyaspor represent one of Turkish football's most surprising modern success stories.
Alanyaspor's dramatic rise through the Turkish football divisions was accelerated by significant investment from their president Hasan Çavuşoğlu, whose ambition transformed a modest regional club into a genuine Süper Lig force. Under a succession of capable coaches, including Italian Vincenzo Montella, the club not only maintained their Süper Lig status but finished third in the 2020–21 season – a remarkable achievement that earned them UEFA Europa League qualification, the first time a team from Alanya had competed in European football.
Süper Lig Achievement and European Football
Alanyaspor's 2020–21 third-place Süper Lig finish was their finest domestic achievement and qualified them for the UEFA Europa League for the first time. The club's European adventure brought continental opponents to their Mediterranean coast setting and generated enormous excitement across the Alanya region. Their ability to compete in Europe within years of reaching the Süper Lig demonstrated the quality of the club's rapid development under committed ownership.
Bahçeşehir Okulları Stadium
Alanyaspor play at the Bahçeşehir Okulları Stadium in Alanya, a modern facility with a capacity of approximately 11,000 that was specifically built to enable the club's Süper Lig ambitions. The stadium's beautiful Mediterranean setting, with the sea and mountains visible from the stands, makes it one of Turkish football's most visually stunning venues. The compact size creates a good atmosphere on matchdays, and European nights at the ground were remarkable occasions for the Alanya community.
