FC Alverca – Club History
FC Alverca do Ribatejo (officially Villa Aeria FC Alverca) was founded in 1922 in Alverca do Ribatejo, a municipality on the south bank of the Tagus River northeast of Lisbon in the Vila Franca de Xira municipality. The club has had periods in the Portuguese Primeira Liga, most notably in the early 2000s, when under Portuguese football's broader expansion the club established top-flight credentials. Playing in orange and black, Alverca represent the Ribatejo industrial region and have maintained a presence in Portuguese football across multiple decades.
Alverca's most notable period in Portuguese football came in the early 2000s when the club competed in the Primeira Liga and qualified for European competition. Their subsequent decline through the divisions reflected broader challenges facing Portuguese provincial clubs in maintaining top-flight status without sustained investment. The club has continued to compete in the lower divisions of Portuguese football, maintaining its community identity.
