SC Rheindorf Altach – Club History
SC Rheindorf Altach was founded in 1929 in Altach, a small municipality in the Vorarlberg province of western Austria. Like Wolfsberger AC, Altach represents one of Austrian football's smaller communities competing in the Bundesliga, with Altach having a population of around 8,000. The club earned promotion to the Austrian Bundesliga in 2013 and have maintained a presence in the top flight since then, qualifying for the UEFA Europa League on multiple occasions and demonstrating what a well-organised small community club can achieve in professional football.
Altach's sustained Austrian Bundesliga presence and their multiple Europa League qualifying campaigns are extraordinary achievements for a club from such a small municipality. Their Schnabelholz stadium provides an intimate home, and the club has used efficient recruitment and coaching to compete above their natural level repeatedly. Their model has drawn comparisons with other small-market over-achievers across European football.
