Charlton Athletic FC plays at The Valley, located in Floyd Road, Charlton, in the Royal Borough of Greenwich, southeast London. With a capacity of approximately 27,111 spectators, The Valley has been Charlton's home since 1919 and is one of English football's most distinctive grounds — a large bowl-shaped stadium carved partly from a chalk cliff, giving it an unusual sunken appearance unique among English football venues. The famous Valley Road End, where Charlton's most passionate supporters gather, sits in a natural amphitheatre created by the chalk geology of the area, giving the ground a physical character unlike any other in English professional football.
