Team History

Gaziantep FK – Club History

Gaziantep FK is a Turkish football club representing Gaziantep, one of Turkey's largest cities in the southeast Anatolian region near the Syrian border. The club was founded in 1969 and has risen to Turkish Süper Lig competition in recent years, representing the footballing ambitions of a major commercial and cultural city renowned for its cuisine, particularly baklava. Playing in red and yellow, Gaziantep FK carry the pride of southeastern Turkey's largest urban centre and have brought consistent top-flight Turkish football to the region.

Gaziantep FK (also known as Gaziantep Büyükşehir Belediyespor in various incarnations) achieved promotion to the Turkish Süper Lig and have maintained their status in Turkish football's top tier. The club's establishment of consistent Süper Lig competition has been an important development for a region that is one of Turkey's major economic centres but had traditionally been underrepresented in top-flight football. Under various managers, Gaziantep have competed with credit and brought professional top-flight football to southeastern Turkey.

Kalyon Stadyumu

Gaziantep FK play at the Kalyon Stadyumu (also known as Gaziantep City Stadium), a modern, purpose-built arena with a capacity of approximately 33,702. The stadium opened in 2019 and is one of Turkey's finest modern football venues, built to high UEFA standards and capable of hosting major international matches. The ground represents the investment in sporting infrastructure that Gaziantep's rapid development as a major Turkish city has generated. Its impressive facilities have been recognised internationally, including hosting matches as an alternative venue when Turkey has hosted major events.
