Allianz Arena
The Allianz Arena is the spectacular home of FC Bayern Munchen, located at Werner-Heisenberg-Allee 25 in the Freimann district of northern Munich. The stadium holds 75,024 spectators and opened in May 2005, replacing the Olympic Stadium that Bayern had shared with TSV 1860 Munich since 1972. Designed by the Swiss architectural firm Herzog and de Meuron, the Allianz Arena is one of the most visually striking football venues in the world, encased in an inflated ETFE plastic exterior that can be illuminated in red for Bayern, white for the German national team, or blue for 1860 Munich. The construction cost approximately 340 million euros and the ground was one of the venues for the 2006 FIFA World Cup.
The stadium has established itself as arguably the most formidable home fortress in European football since its opening. Bayern Munich have dominated both the Bundesliga and the Champions League from this ground, accumulating multiple successive league titles and lifting the UEFA Champions League trophy in front of their own fans in 2012 and again in 2023. Stars including Oliver Kahn, Michael Ballack, Franck Ribery, Arjen Robben, Robert Lewandowski, Thomas Muller, and Manuel Neuer have all illuminated the Allianz Arena's turf. The atmosphere generated by the 75,000-strong crowd, particularly in the packed standing sections, is among the most intense in European football.
The Allianz Arena holds the record for selling out every Bundesliga match since its opening - an unbroken run of full houses that reflects Bayern's dominance and popularity. Bayern Munich are the most successful German club in history, and the ground serves as the stage for their continued Champions League campaigns. The stadium features state-of-the-art facilities, executive suites, hospitality areas, and an integrated Bayern Museum. The exterior illumination remains one of football's great visual spectacles and has made the Allianz Arena one of the most photographed sports venues in the world.
