Stadion im Borussia-Park
The Stadion im Borussia-Park is the home of Borussia Monchengladbach, located at Hennes-Weisweiler-Allee 1 in Monchengladbach, North Rhine-Westphalia. The stadium holds 54,057 spectators for Bundesliga matches and opened in 2004, replacing the Bokelbergstadion which had been the club's home since 1919 and was demolished in 2006. Situated on the northern edge of the city, the Borussia-Park was one of the most ambitious stadium construction projects in German club football at the time of its opening, providing Gladbach with a modern, purpose-built venue equipped for Bundesliga and European competition. The stadium is named after the park and leisure complex that surrounds it.
Borussia Monchengladbach are one of the most celebrated clubs in German football history, having won five Bundesliga titles and two UEFA Cups during the golden era of the 1970s under legendary coach Hennes Weisweiler, after whom the approach road to the stadium is named. That era featured iconic players including Gunter Netzer, Jupp Heynckes, Berti Vogts, and Rainer Bonhof, and produced some of European football's most free-flowing attacking football. The Bokelbergstadion had been the home of that glorious period, and the Borussia-Park has had to build its own identity since 2004 - hosting Champions League group stage football in the 2010s and consistent Bundesliga campaigns.
The Borussia-Park's four stands provide an enclosed, modern matchday environment with strong acoustics and excellent sight lines. The south stand generates the most noise and houses the club's active supporter groups. The stadium holds European matches at a reduced all-seated capacity. For Bundesliga matches, the standing areas in the south and west stands are activated, bringing the capacity to over 54,000. Gladbach's reputation as one of German football's great community clubs, drawing support from across the lower Rhine region and beyond, means the stadium is consistently well-attended for top fixtures.
