Etihad Stadium
The Etihad Stadium is the home of Manchester City Football Club, located on Etihad Campus in the Bradford district of east Manchester. The ground was originally constructed as the centrepiece venue for the 2002 Commonwealth Games, when it was known as the City of Manchester Stadium. Following the Games, it was converted and handed to Manchester City for the 2003-04 season, replacing the club's long-time home at Maine Road, which had been their ground since 1923.
The stadium initially held around 35,000 supporters before being progressively expanded to its current capacity of 53,400. A major expansion of the South Stand was completed in 2015, and further development of the North Stand is planned to bring total capacity to over 60,000, reflecting the club's extraordinary growth under Abu Dhabi ownership. The Etihad has hosted UEFA Champions League group and knockout matches, and the surrounding campus has been transformed into a major sporting district, including the City Football Academy training complex.
Under manager Pep Guardiola, the Etihad became one of Europe's most feared grounds, as Manchester City accumulated Premier League title after title and lifted the UEFA Champions League trophy for the first time in 2023. The stadium's modern infrastructure, striking architecture, and electric atmosphere on European nights have elevated it to elite status. Record attendance at the ground stands at 54,693, set during a Champions League fixture.
