FC Augsburg

The WWK Arena is the modern home of FC Augsburg, located at Burgermeister-Ulrich-Strasse 90 in the Haunstetten district of Augsburg, Bavaria. The stadium holds 30,660 spectators and opened in July 2009, replacing the old Rosenaupark stadium that had been the club's home for decades. Named after the WWK life insurance group under a commercial agreement, the arena was built on a site to the south of the Augsburg city centre and provided the club with UEFA-compliant facilities for the first time in their history. The construction was undertaken in anticipation of the club's expected rise to the Bundesliga, which duly arrived in 2011.

FC Augsburg's promotion to the Bundesliga in 2011 marked a watershed moment for the club and the region, and the WWK Arena has been a top-flight German venue ever since, making Augsburg one of the most consistent of Germany's smaller clubs in the top division. The stadium has hosted Europa League group stage matches following the club's strong Bundesliga finishes, most notably in 2015-16 when Augsburg reached the knockout rounds of the competition - a remarkable achievement for a club of their stature. Manager Markus Weinzierl guided the club through these European seasons and established the WWK Arena as a respectable Bundesliga venue.

Augsburg is Bavaria's third-largest city and one of Germany's oldest, with a history stretching back to Roman times.
