Estadio Nuevo Los Cármenes
Granada CF plays at Estadio Nuevo Los Cármenes, located in the La Chana neighbourhood of Granada, one of Spain's most historically extraordinary cities in Andalusia. With a capacity of approximately 19,336 spectators, the stadium opened in 1995 as an upgrade of the original Los Cármenes ground and serves as the venue for the club in Spain's second tier. Granada is internationally famous for the Alhambra palace complex, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the finest examples of Moorish architecture in the world, and this extraordinary historical backdrop gives football in Granada a uniquely culturally charged setting.
Granada CF enjoyed their most celebrated modern era following investment from Nashirul Nasution and later the Chinese media group Desports International, which funded significant player recruitment that brought the club to La Liga and then to the UEFA Europa League quarter-finals in 2020–21 — beating Napoli, Molde, and Manchester United (on away goals) before losing to Manchester United in a dramatic tie. Those Europa League nights at Los Cármenes — under the floodlights with the Alhambra palace visible on the hillside above the city — were among the most romantically charged occasions in modern European club football, and generated global attention for the city.
Following the club's subsequent relegation and financial reorganisation, Granada CF's return to La Liga 2 provides a platform for rebuilding toward a future La Liga presence. Nuevo Los Cármenes continues to serve as the club's professional home, with the Granada community's football passion sustained by the memories of recent European adventures. The combination of the Alhambra's UNESCO grandeur, the city's spectacular Sierra Nevada mountain backdrop, and the passion of the Granadina football community makes Los Cármenes one of Spain's most evocatively situated football stadiums — a venue where the beauty of football coexists with some of the world's most extraordinary human cultural achievement.
