FC Metalist 1925 Kharkiv plays at Stadion Metalist (earlier known as Stadium Metalist, capacity approximately 40,003), located in Kharkiv, Ukraine's second-largest city in the northeast, close to the Russian border. The historic ground carries enormous significance in Ukrainian football history — the original FC Metalist Kharkiv were one of Ukraine's most decorated clubs and regular European participants before a match-fixing scandal led to their dissolution. Metalist 1925, formed as a continuation of the historical club's traditions, has worked to re-establish Kharkiv's football identity while the original stadium — used for Euro 2012 group stage matches — stands as a reminder of the city's football heritage.
Kharkiv's Metalist Stadium hosted four group stage matches at UEFA Euro 2012, making it one of the most internationally recognised football venues in Ukraine. The stadium was fully renovated for the tournament at significant cost, becoming a world-class facility with excellent amenities. The original Metalist Kharkiv were one of Ukraine's most competitive clubs during the 2010s, regularly participating in UEFA Europa League group stages and at one point reaching the quarter-finals. Their suspension from UEFA competition due to match-fixing allegations against the club's former owner was a devastating blow for Kharkiv football and the wider Ukrainian game.
Metalist 1925's journey back to the Ukrainian Premier League has been an emotional one for the Kharkiv football community, who endured years without top-flight football while the city's stadium stood largely unused for professional matches. The situation has been further complicated by Kharkiv's proximity to Russia — the city is among the closest major Ukrainian urban centres to the Russian border and has been repeatedly targeted by Russian bombardment since the full-scale invasion of 2022. Football continues in Kharkiv under extraordinary circumstances, and the club's participation in the Premier League serves as a powerful symbol of the city's refusal to abandon its normal cultural life in the face of ongoing military threat.
