Villa Park
Villa Park is the historic home of Aston Villa Football Club, located on Trinity Road in the Aston district of Birmingham. The stadium holds 42,640 spectators and has been the club's home since 1897, making it one of the longest-serving football grounds in England. The site has roots going back even further, with the Aston Lower Grounds having been used for football in the 1870s and 1880s before the permanent development began. Villa Park is widely regarded as one of the finest and most atmospheric traditional grounds in English football.
Throughout its history, Villa Park has been a prestigious venue for major football occasions. It has hosted 16 FA Cup semi-finals, more than any other ground in England, and was a venue for Euro 1996 matches, including the semi-final between England and Germany. The stadium has also welcomed international fixtures, European nights, and countless League Cup ties. The iconic Holte End, which once housed an uncovered terrace of over 20,000 fans, now forms a two-tier seated stand and remains the most vocal section of the ground. Key historical stands including the Doug Ellis Stand reflect the club's long tradition.
Aston Villa are one of the founding members of the Football League and a club with vast history, including seven league titles and a European Cup triumph in 1982. Under Unai Emery's management, Villa have returned to genuine European contention, and Villa Park has once again become a venue for UEFA Champions League football. Plans for further expansion of the ground are being considered as the club seeks to match its growing ambitions with infrastructure befitting one of England's most storied clubs.
