Van Donge & De Roo Stadion

Rotterdam, Honingerdijk 110 4,500 capacity

The Van Donge & De Roo Stadion, also known as the Woudestein Stadion, is the compact home of Excelsior Rotterdam, located at Honingerdijk 110 in the Kralingen district of Rotterdam, South Holland. The stadium holds 4,500 spectators, making it the smallest ground in the Eredivisie when the club participates in the top flight, and has been the club's home since the 1950s. Named after a commercial sponsor, the ground is situated in a pleasant residential area of eastern Rotterdam, close to the Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences campus, giving it a distinctive academic neighbourhood setting.

Excelsior Rotterdam are one of the Netherlands' oldest clubs, founded in 1902, and have spent most of their history in the Eerste Divisie, making periodic appearances in the Eredivisie. The club is particularly known for their development of young talent and for their financial prudence in operating sustainably within modest means. Several Dutch internationals and players who went on to successful careers in the top flight began or developed at Excelsior. The club's return to the Eredivisie in 2022 brought national attention to what is one of Dutch football's smaller operations, competing against Ajax, Feyenoord, and PSV from a ground that holds fewer than 5,000 spectators.

The Van Donge & De Roo Stadion's tiny capacity means it sells out for virtually every Eredivisie home match, and the atmosphere generated within its tight stands is notable for its intensity relative to the modest size. Excelsior's fans are among the most dedicated and vocal relative to support base in Dutch football. The club's position as Rotterdam's second professional club - after Feyenoord and ahead of Sparta - means they draw support from those who want an alternative to the city's dominant force. Plans for stadium development have been discussed, though the scale of any expansion is constrained by the residential character of the Kralingen neighbourhood surrounding the ground.
