GAIS – Club History

GAIS (Göteborgs Atlet- och Idrottssällskap) was founded in 1894 in Gothenburg, Sweden's second-largest city. One of Sweden's oldest football clubs, GAIS won the Allsvenskan on three occasions – in 1922, 1931, and 1954 – and have a proud place in Swedish football history. Playing in black and green stripes, GAIS are one of four major Gothenburg clubs and contribute to the city's extraordinary football culture. After extended periods in the lower divisions, the club earned promotion back to the Allsvenskan and has worked to re-establish their top-flight presence.
