Euroborg
The Euroborg is the home of FC Groningen, located at Boumaboulevard 41 in the city of Groningen, in the northern Netherlands. The stadium holds 22,525 spectators and opened in 2006, replacing the old Oosterpark Stadion that had been the club's home for many decades. Built in the Europapark district on the eastern edge of the city, the Euroborg is integrated into a broader development of offices, residential buildings, and commercial facilities, making it one of the Netherlands' first examples of a multi-use urban stadium district. The modern design features a fully covered four-stand structure with good facilities and sight lines throughout.
FC Groningen have been a regular Eredivisie presence and have contributed meaningfully to Dutch football culture. The club produced or hosted notable players over the years and have qualified for European competition on multiple occasions, including UEFA Cup and Europa League participation. Groningen is the largest city in the northern Netherlands, a major university hub with a large student population that contributes to a vibrant cultural and sporting life. The Euroborg benefits from this broader civic context, attracting consistent support from students, academics, and the wider Groningen province community.
The Euroborg's modern infrastructure includes good commercial facilities, hospitality areas, and UEFA-compliant pitch standards. The stadium is part of a wider entertainment district in Groningen's Europapark zone that includes hotels and restaurants, making matchdays an extended social experience. Groningen's Europa League participation in 2013-14, including qualification from the group stage, demonstrated the club's capacity to compete at European level. The stadium generates a strong atmosphere for important Eredivisie and cup fixtures. FC Groningen's position as the standard-bearer for northern Dutch football gives the Euroborg a significance beyond its modest scale in the broader Eredivisie landscape.
