FC Lausanne-Sport – Club History
FC Lausanne-Sport was founded in 1896 in Lausanne, the largest city on Lake Geneva and the headquarters of the International Olympic Committee. Playing in blue and white, Lausanne-Sport are one of Swiss football's historic clubs and have won the Swiss Super League on seven occasions, though their most recent title came in 1965. The club draws its identity from the diverse, international character of Lausanne – a city that hosts numerous global sporting bodies and attracted generations of international residents – and has maintained a presence in Swiss football across their 125+ year history.
Lausanne-Sport's seven Swiss championship victories span from 1913 to 1965, reflecting multiple competitive eras in Swiss football. The club competed regularly in European competition during their stronger periods and was considered one of Switzerland's established clubs through much of the twentieth century. A prolonged period of lower-division competition in the 2000s was followed by a successful return to the Swiss Super League, with the club competing consistently in the top flight again in the 2020s after their promotion in 2018.
Swiss Super League History
Lausanne-Sport's seven Swiss Super League titles represent a significant domestic achievement across multiple eras. Their final championship in 1965 represented the conclusion of their dominant mid-twentieth century period. The club's subsequent decades were less successful, but the rebuilding process in the 2010s under new investment eventually restored Lausanne to the Swiss top flight. The opening of the Stade de la Tuilière in 2020 provided the club with a modern, purpose-built stadium that signals their renewed ambition.
Stade de la Tuilière
FC Lausanne-Sport moved to the Stade de la Tuilière in 2020, a brand-new stadium built in the Vennes area of Lausanne with a capacity of 12,544 supporters. The modern, compact facility replaced the much larger Stade Olympique de la Pontaise and provides an excellent matchday environment for Swiss Super League football. Located in Lausanne with its Olympic heritage, the stadium reflects the city's sporting ambitions and provides Lausanne-Sport with a genuine home after years of sharing or using borrowed facilities.
