Planet Group Arena
The Planet Group Arena is the modern home of KAA Gent, located at Ottergemsesteenweg-Zuid 808 in the city of Gent in East Flanders. The stadium holds 20,185 supporters and opened in 2013, replacing the old Jules Ottenstadion which had served the club since 1920. Built on the southern outskirts of Gent, the Planet Group Arena represented a major upgrade in facilities and capacity, providing the club with an UEFA-compliant venue capable of hosting European group stage football. Naming rights are held by HR technology company Planet Group.
Gent's arrival at the new stadium coincided with a remarkable rise in the club's fortunes. Under coach Hein Vanhaezebroeck and later Peter Maes, KAA Gent won their first ever Belgian First Division title in 2015, an extraordinary achievement for a club that had spent much of its history in the shadow of Anderlecht, Club Brugge, and Standard Liege. The following season, Gent became only the second Belgian club to reach the knockout rounds of the UEFA Champions League, defeating Zenit Saint Petersburg in a memorable last-16 tie. The Planet Group Arena hosted those historic European nights and has since established itself as a significant venue in Belgian club football.
The stadium's design is functional and modern, with four covered stands providing good sightlines and solid acoustics. Gent consistently attract strong attendances and the club's fanbase, known as the Buffalo Army, creates a passionate and colourful atmosphere that enhances the matchday experience. The arena has hosted Europa League and Conference League fixtures in subsequent seasons. Gent remain one of the most consistent title challengers in Belgium, and the Planet Group Arena is central to their identity as a club that punches above its weight on both the domestic and European stage.
