Team History

Sarpsborg 08 FF – Club History

Sarpsborg 08 FF was founded in 2008 in Sarpsborg, an industrial city in the Østfold county of southeastern Norway, not far from the Swedish border. Despite being one of Norway's youngest professional clubs, Sarpsborg 08 achieved remarkable success in their first decade, winning promotion to the Eliteserien and establishing themselves as a consistent top-flight presence. Playing in blue, the club merged football traditions from the Sarpsborg region and built a well-organised, competitive outfit that qualified for the UEFA Europa League group stage in 2018–19 – an extraordinary achievement for a club just ten years old.

Sarpsborg 08's 2018–19 Europa League group stage campaign was the defining moment in the club's short history. Competing against Bayer Leverkusen, Ludogorets Razgrad, and Zürich, the Norwegian club performed with tremendous credit and even defeated Zürich in the group stage. The experience of European group stage football in a club's first decade of existence is virtually unmatched in modern football history and demonstrated the quality of the club's development model and coaching staff.
