Team History

Konyaspor – Club History

Konyaspor was founded in 1922 in Konya, one of Turkey's largest cities in the central Anatolian heartland. The club is nicknamed the Yeşil Beyazlılar (Green and Whites) for their distinctive green and white colours, and represents a city of enormous historical and religious significance as the home of the Mevlana Rumi's shrine and the Sufi whirling dervish tradition. Konyaspor have maintained a consistent Süper Lig presence in recent years and achieved their greatest success with the Turkish Cup victory in 2017 – their first major domestic trophy and a moment of extraordinary celebration across the Konya region.

Konyaspor's history in Turkish football includes multiple periods of Süper Lig competition, with the club rising and falling through the divisions across their century of existence. Their sustained modern top-flight presence began in the 2010s when consistent investment and quality management established them as a regular Süper Lig side. Their 2017 Turkish Cup victory was a watershed moment that qualified the club for European football for the first time and gave Konya an international presence on the UEFA stage.

Turkish Cup Victory and European Football

Konyaspor's 2016–17 Turkish Cup victory over Fenerbahçe in the final was the greatest achievement in the club's history. Defeating one of Turkey's most powerful clubs to claim the trophy was a remarkable achievement that earned Konyaspor's players and supporters enormous respect across Turkish football. The subsequent Europa League participation – playing European matches in the historic city of Konya – was an unforgettable experience for a club from the Anatolian heartland.

Konya Büyükşehir Stadium

Konyaspor play at the Konya Büyükşehir Stadyumu, a modern 42,000-capacity stadium that is one of Turkey's finest modern football venues. The stadium opened in 2014 and replaced the older Atatürk Stadyumu, providing world-class facilities for Turkish top-flight and European football. Located in the centre of Konya, the stadium reflects the city's investment in sporting infrastructure and creates an impressive backdrop for football in Turkey's Anatolian heartland.
