Konya Büyükşehir Belediye Stadyumu

Konya, Sille Parsana Mh., Kaletaş Caddesi, Selçuklu 42,000 capacity

The Konya Buyuksehir Belediye Stadyumu is the modern home of Konyaspor, located in Selcuklu on the western edge of Konya, a major city in the Anatolian heartland of central Turkey. The stadium holds 42,000 spectators and opened in 2014 as part of a broader modernisation of sports infrastructure in Konya. A modern, purpose-built ground with four covered stands, the stadium was designed to serve both Konyaspor and as a major events venue for Turkey's seventh-largest city - a city of great historical and religious significance as the home of the Mevlana Rumi, founder of the Sufi whirling dervishes tradition, and one of the oldest continuously inhabited settlements in the world.

Konyaspor achieved their greatest moment in 2016-17 when they won the Ziraat Turkey Cup, their first major national trophy, under coach Aykut Kocaman. The cup triumph was celebrated with extraordinary scenes in Konya and demonstrated that clubs from outside Istanbul could compete for national honours. The club has also competed in European football through their cup victories, bringing international matches to the Konya stadium and giving the central Anatolian city its first taste of UEFA competition. Konyaspor draw support from across the Konya province and the broader Anatolian interior, reflecting the city's role as the cultural and economic hub of the Turkish heartland.

The Konya stadium's capacity of 42,000 is impressive for a provincial Turkish club and reflects the city government's investment in modern sporting infrastructure. Konya is one of Turkey's most historically significant cities - the medieval capital of the Sultanate of Rum, home to the magnificent Mevlana Museum, and a destination for millions of religious pilgrims and cultural tourists annually. Konyaspor represent this extraordinary city on the national football stage, drawing on a fanbase motivated by both sporting passion and the deep civic pride of Anatolia's cultural capital. The stadium serves as the focal point for this community's football identity within the broader Turkish Super Lig.
