AVS Stadium

Estádio do Clube Desportivo das Aves

Vila das Aves, Rua Luís Gonzaga Mendes de Carvalho 265 8,560 capacity

The Estadio do Clube Desportivo das Aves is the home of AVS Futebol SAD, located at Rua Luis Gonzaga Mendes de Carvalho 265 in Vila das Aves, in the Santo Tirso municipality of the Porto district, northern Portugal. The stadium holds 8,560 spectators and has been associated with football in the Ave valley for many decades, originally serving as the home of CD Aves before the club's dissolution and the subsequent formation of AVS as the community's new professional football entity. The ground sits in the heart of the Ave river valley, one of Portugal's most densely industrialised textile manufacturing regions.

AVS Futebol SAD was created from the ashes of CD Aves, which had achieved its greatest moment when winning the Taca de Portugal in 2018 under Augusto Inacio before financial difficulties led to the club's exclusion from professional football in 2019. The community of Vila das Aves and the Santo Tirso municipality subsequently worked to establish a successor club that could return professional football to the Ave valley. AVS navigated the lower divisions before achieving promotion to the Primeira Liga, giving the area its top-flight football club once again and demonstrating the resilience of the local football community.

The Estadio do Clube Desportivo das Aves provides functional facilities for Primeira Liga competition, with improvements undertaken to meet top-flight requirements. The Ave valley's textile industry heritage, with its distinctive smokestack architecture and workers' community culture, gives the club a strong working-class identity. The stadium's location between the major cities of Porto, Braga, and Guimaraes gives AVS access to a substantial potential supporter base, and the club's revival has been enthusiastically supported by the loyal football community that has maintained its passion for the beautiful game in the Ave valley through years of lower-division competition.
