SD Huesca – Club History
SD Huesca was founded in 1960 in Huesca, a small city of approximately 52,000 inhabitants in the Aragon region of northeastern Spain, nestled in the foothills of the Pyrenean mountains. Despite being one of Spain's smallest cities to have a La Liga club, Huesca achieved two La Liga promotions – in 2018 and 2020 – and competed in Spain's top flight on both occasions. Playing in blue and red, the Azulgranas represent the proud mountain community of Aragon's provincial capital and have become something of a beloved underdog story in Spanish football.
Huesca's two La Liga promotions were extraordinary achievements for a club from a city far smaller than any of their competitors. Under managers including Leo Franco and Antonio Hidalgo, the club competed with remarkable organisation and determination. Their 2019–20 La Liga season was particularly celebrated, with survival achieved on the final day in dramatic fashion. These experiences transformed Huesca's profile and demonstrated that Spain's football pyramid could produce remarkable stories from its smallest communities.
