Oxford United FC – Club History
Oxford United Football Club was founded in 1893 as Headington United, adopting the current name in 1960. Based in Oxford, one of England's most famous university cities, the club achieved remarkable success in the 1980s under chairman Robert Maxwell and manager Jim Smith – winning the old Third Division, Second Division, and the League Cup in 1986. Playing in yellow and blue, the U's have competed primarily in the Championship and League One in the modern era, with promotion to the Championship in 2023 the most recent landmark. Their Kassam Stadium replaced the old Manor Ground in 2001.
