Team History

Strømsgodset IF – Club History

Strømsgodset IF is a Norwegian football club founded in 1907 in Drammen, the largest city in Viken county, situated along the Drammen River southwest of Oslo. The club, known as Godset or SIF, has built a proud tradition in Norwegian football, competing in the Eliteserien and winning their first Norwegian championship in 1970 and their second, celebrated title in 2013. Playing in black and white stripes, Strømsgodset have developed a reputation in recent years for progressive football under strong management, and their 2013 title victory was particularly lauded for the attractive, attacking style the club played.

Strømsgodset's 1970 championship was their first major achievement and established them as a genuine force in Norwegian football. After decades of competitive but trophy-less football, the club's renaissance came under manager David Nielsen and then Tor Ole Skullerud. Their 2013 Eliteserien title was achieved with a squad emphasising technical quality and attacking football that earned wide admiration in Scandinavia. The club's investment in youth development through their excellent academy has produced players who have gone on to represent Norway internationally and move to clubs across Europe.

Marienlyst Stadion

Strømsgodset play their home matches at Marienlyst Stadion in Drammen, a stadium that holds approximately 8,300 supporters. The ground has been the club's home through their history and has hosted Eliteserien and European matches. Despite its modest size, Marienlyst creates a good atmosphere on big occasions and reflects the close community connection between Strømsgodset and the people of Drammen. The club have discussed plans for stadium development to match their growing ambitions.
