Eyüpspor – Club History

Eyüpspor is a Turkish football club founded in 1968 in the Eyüp district of Istanbul, one of the city's most religiously and historically significant neighbourhoods on the European side of the Golden Horn. Named after the Eyüp Sultan Mosque – one of Islam's most sacred sites in Istanbul – the club carries the spiritual and cultural weight of one of Turkey's most venerated places. Playing in blue and white, Eyüpspor spent the majority of their history in the lower divisions of Turkish football before their dramatic rise to the Süper Lig in the 2020s, culminating in their remarkable 2023–24 Süper Lig title as newly promoted champions.

Eyüpspor's rise from obscurity to Turkish champions within a few years is one of European football's most extraordinary stories. Backed by significant investment from new ownership, the club was transformed from a lower-division outfit into a first-time Süper Lig participant and then, astonishingly, Süper Lig champions in their debut top-flight season in 2023–24 – the first newly promoted side to win the Turkish championship in the modern era. This achievement generated enormous celebration in the Eyüp district and across Turkey.

Historic Süper Lig Title

Eyüpspor's 2023–24 Süper Lig title was one of Turkish football's most sensational achievements. As a newly promoted club competing against established giants Galatasaray, Fenerbahçe, and Beşiktaş, winning the championship was virtually inconceivable by conventional footballing logic. The title was achieved through excellent organisation, ambitious recruitment, and the collective spirit instilled by manager Eyüp Türkaslan. This triumph immediately qualified Eyüpspor for the UEFA Champions League for the first time in their history, completing a journey from the lower divisions to Europe's elite competition.

Champions League Debut

Following their Süper Lig title, Eyüpspor competed in the UEFA Champions League qualifying rounds in 2024–25, completing an extraordinary journey from lower-division football to Europe's premier club competition within just a few years. These European experiences, regardless of the outcome, represent a landmark in the club's history and in Turkish football, demonstrating what investment and quality management can achieve even for a club with modest historical roots.

Eyüpspor Stadium

Eyüpspor play at their stadium in the Eyüp district of Istanbul, a ground that has been progressively developed alongside the club's rise through Turkish football's divisions. As the club entered the Süper Lig, they made arrangements to play at venues capable of hosting top-flight Turkish football. The Eyüp district itself, with its historic mosques and traditional Istanbul character, provides a unique backdrop for football that distinguishes Eyüpspor from all other Turkish clubs.
