Bosuilstadion
The Bosuilstadion is the traditional home of Royal Antwerp Football Club, situated at Oude Bosuilbaan 54a in the Deurne district of the city of Antwerp. The stadium holds 16,649 spectators and occupies a site that has been associated with Antwerp FC for many decades. Royal Antwerp Football Club, founded in 1880, is the oldest football club in Belgium and one of the oldest professional clubs in continental Europe. This historical identity is deeply embedded in the character of the Bosuilstadion, which carries a sense of heritage and tradition.
Antwerp spent many years in the lower divisions before a remarkable revival under the ownership of Paul Gheysens beginning in 2017. The club rapidly climbed back to the Pro League and, under manager Mark van Bommel, won their first Belgian league title in 66 years in 2023, ending a remarkable drought for one of the country's founding clubs. The Bosuilstadion was the setting for this historic championship, generating scenes of jubilation in the city of Antwerp - Belgium's second-largest city and its main port. The ground has been progressively upgraded in line with the club's ambitious commercial and sporting plans.
The Bosuilstadion's future is closely linked to broader redevelopment plans for Antwerp FC's infrastructure. The club has long discussed a new or significantly expanded stadium to serve their aspirations as a top-flight club with European ambitions. In the interim, the Bosuil has hosted UEFA Champions League and Europa League qualifying matches, proving its capacity to serve European football at a preliminary level. The loyal Antwerp supporters create an intense and vocal atmosphere within the old ground, driven by the club's proud identity as the "Great Old" - a title that captures both their age and their ongoing renewal.
