Merkur Arena

Graz, Stadionplatz 1 A 16,764 capacity

SK Sturm Graz plays its home matches at Merkur Arena, officially named Merkur Versicherungsstadion following a naming rights agreement with the Merkur insurance company. Located in the Liebenau district of Graz, the capital of Styria in southern Austria, the stadium has a capacity of 16,364 spectators and has been the home of Sturm Graz since the modern era of Austrian football. The ground was built in the 1990s and has undergone several renovations to maintain its standing as one of Austria's premier football venues. It was originally known as the Arnold-Schwarzenegger-Stadion — named after the Graz-born actor and politician — before the commercial naming arrangement was put in place.

Sturm Graz has been one of Austrian football's most successful clubs, winning three Austrian Bundesliga titles and several Austrian Cup trophies. Their most glorious European campaign came in the 1999–2000 UEFA Champions League, when the club participated in the group stage and performed admirably against some of Europe's elite clubs, including Glasgow Rangers, Monaco, and Galatasaray. The Merkur Arena was filled to capacity for these historic occasions, and the atmosphere generated was remarkable for a ground of its size. More recently, Sturm Graz's consecutive Austrian Bundesliga titles in 2023–24 and their strong European campaigns have re-established the club as Austria's dominant force.

The Merkur Arena is a well-maintained and modern facility by Austrian standards, providing a comfortable environment for home supporters and meeting UEFA standards for European competition. Graz is a vibrant university city and the second-largest city in Austria, and the football club plays an important role in the city's cultural life alongside rival club Grazer AK. The stadium's capacity allows for a genuinely intense atmosphere on big matchdays, and Sturm Graz's consistent success in recent seasons has ensured that the Merkur Arena is regularly close to capacity for important Bundesliga and European fixtures.
