Rams Global Stadium
The Rams Global Stadium is the modern home of Galatasaray SK, located on Istanbul Cevre Yolu in the Aslantepe area of the Seyrantepe district of Istanbul. The stadium holds 53,978 spectators and opened in January 2011, replacing the historic Ali Sami Yen Stadium that had been Galatasaray's home since 1964. Built at a cost of approximately 120 million euros, the stadium was originally known as the Turk Telekom Arena and subsequently the NEF Stadium before adopting the Rams Global name through a commercial naming agreement. The four-stand design provides a fully enclosed, modern matchday environment with excellent acoustics that amplify Galatasaray's passionate support.
Galatasaray are Turkey's most successful club in European competition, famously winning the UEFA Cup and the UEFA Super Cup in 2000 under coach Fatih Terim, defeating Arsenal on penalties in Copenhagen and then Real Madrid in Monaco. That triumph, achieved with a squad including Hakan Sukur, Hasan Sas, Popescu, Emre, and the Romanian pair of Hagi and Popescu, brought European glory to Istanbul for the first time and announced Turkish football to the European stage. Galatasaray have won 24 Super Lig titles and have competed in the Champions League group stage on multiple occasions, with the Rams Global Stadium hosting Europe's elite clubs in modern times.
The stadium generates extraordinary atmospheres for Istanbul derby matches against Fenerbahce - the Intercontinental Derby, one of the most contested city rivalries in world football - and for Champions League evenings. Galatasaray's fanbase is one of the world's most passionate, with supporters known for creating wall-to-wall noise, smoke, and pyrotechnics that give the Rams Global Stadium an intimidating character. The stadium's location in the European part of Istanbul, close to the Bosphorus strait that separates Europe from Asia, places it at the heart of one of the world's great cities and football cultures.
