IFK Norrköping – Club History
IFK Norrköping is one of Sweden's most decorated football clubs, founded in 1897 in Norrköping, an industrial city in the Östergötland region of eastern Sweden. With 13 Allsvenskan titles, Norrköping are Sweden's fourth most successful club overall and were at one time – briefly – the most successful Swedish football club. Playing in blue and yellow, Peking – as the club is affectionately nicknamed – have a proud tradition rooted in Norrköping's textile and industrial heritage and draw support from across the eastern Swedish region.
Norrköping's golden era came in the 1940s and 1950s, when the club won 9 of their 13 championships in a dominant period of Swedish football. From the 1940s through the 1960s, Norrköping were the default Swedish champions, producing players of exceptional quality and building a squad that was respected across Scandinavia. Their most recent Allsvenskan title came in 2015 under manager Jens Gustafsson, ending a long championship drought and confirming Norrköping's continued relevance in the modern Swedish game.
Allsvenskan Championships
IFK Norrköping's 13 Allsvenskan titles make them one of Sweden's most decorated clubs. Their nine titles between 1943 and 1963 was one of the most extraordinary runs of domestic dominance in any country's football history. The 2015 title was achieved with young Swedish talent and reflected the club's excellent youth development programme that has consistently produced players for the national team. Their regular Allsvenskan competition in recent seasons has maintained Norrköping as one of Swedish football's established forces.
Östgötaporten
IFK Norrköping play at the Östgötaporten Stadium in Norrköping, a modern facility that holds approximately 17,000 supporters. The stadium was redeveloped significantly in recent years and provides excellent facilities for Allsvenskan football and European competition. Its modern design and the passionate Blue-Yellow support create one of Swedish football's better matchday atmospheres. Norrköping's industrial heritage and community connection to the club give the stadium and its surroundings a distinctive character that reflects the city's proud identity.
