CA Osasuna – Club History
Club Atlético Osasuna was founded in 1920 in Pamplona, the capital of the Navarre region in northern Spain. The club, whose name is Basque for "health and strength", plays in red shirts and is an unusual institution in Spanish football – one of the only major Spanish clubs to be entirely member-owned and thus free from the risks of external investor control. Playing at the compact El Sadar stadium, Osasuna draw passionate support from across Navarre and have been consistent La Liga competitors across multiple eras, achieving European qualification and a Copa del Rey final that represent their finest modern achievements.
Osasuna's community-owned model has given the club financial stability that many Spanish clubs lack. Their history includes multiple La Liga seasons and their best-ever result of fourth place in the Spanish top flight during the 2005–06 season, when they qualified for the UEFA Cup. The Copa del Rey final in 2023, which they lost to Real Madrid, was the greatest domestic cup achievement in the club's history and was celebrated enthusiastically across Navarre despite the defeat, reflecting the pride the region takes in their beloved club.
La Liga History
Osasuna have been consistent La Liga competitors across multiple promotion-relegation cycles, always returning to the top flight as one of Spain's genuinely established provincial clubs. Their fourth-place finish in 2006 was extraordinary and qualified them for the UEFA Cup. Their Copa del Rey success in the 2022–23 season, reaching the final against Real Madrid, was the crowning modern achievement. Under coach Jagoba Arrasate, Osasuna have established a solid, organised playing style that has maintained their La Liga presence.
El Sadar Stadium
Osasuna play at El Sadar Stadium in Pamplona, a compact, atmospheric ground that holds approximately 23,500 supporters. The stadium generates one of La Liga's most intense atmospheres, with the passionate Navarrese support in tight, enclosed stands creating formidable noise levels. El Sadar has been Osasuna's home throughout their history and reflects the club's community character – a modest, honest venue for a club whose identity is rooted in the proud, independent people of Navarre.
