Cagliari Stadium

Sardegna Arena

Cagliari, Via Raimondo Carta Raspi 16,416 capacity

The Unipol Domus, previously known as the Sardegna Arena, is the home of Cagliari Calcio, located at Via Raimondo Carta Raspi in Cagliari, the capital of Sardinia. The stadium holds 16,416 spectators and opened in 2017, replacing the historic Stadio Sant'Elia which had served the club for decades but had become increasingly dilapidated. Built on land adjacent to the Sant'Elia site on the western seafront of Cagliari, the new ground was designed to provide a modern, UEFA-compliant venue for a club with a passionate regional following. Naming rights were held by Sardegna Ricerche and more recently by the Unipol insurance group.

Cagliari Calcio are the only club from Sardinia to have won the Serie A title, a feat they achieved in the extraordinary 1969-70 season when Gigi Riva, the greatest Italian footballer of his generation, led the island club to the championship ahead of Inter Milan and Juventus. Riva, who scored 35 goals in that title-winning campaign and remains Italy's all-time leading international scorer with 35 goals in 42 matches, chose to remain on the island throughout his career despite offers from the continent's biggest clubs - a decision that made him a symbol of Sardinian identity and loyalty. The club has experienced turbulent fortunes since that golden era, including multiple promotions and relegations.

The Unipol Domus provides Cagliari with modern facilities suited to the rigours of Serie A competition, with good sight lines, covered stands, and infrastructure for UEFA competition. The stadium's location on the waterfront in the south of Cagliari gives it a pleasant setting, and the club's passionate Sardinian fanbase creates vocal, colourful matchday atmospheres. Cagliari's most recent Serie A seasons have seen them compete with determination against the northern Italian powers from their island base, and the Unipol Domus serves as the proud home of a club that represents an entire island's footballing identity and heritage.
