Estadio de los Juegos Mediterráneos
UD Almería plays at the Estadio de los Juegos Mediterráneos, located in Almería, a city in Andalusia on Spain's southeastern Mediterranean coast. The stadium opened in 2004 specifically for the Mediterranean Games held in Almería that year, hence its full name, and has a capacity of 22,028 spectators. The ground features an elliptical design with modern covered stands and sits in a city known internationally for its year-round sunshine, the Alcazaba Moorish fortress, the Cabo de Gata natural park, and as one of the driest areas in Europe. Almería's hot, arid climate means the stadium regularly hosts football in conditions notably different from those experienced in northern Spain.
UD Almería's most celebrated era came during the mid-2000s when the club, backed by significant investment, rose from the lower divisions of Spanish football to La Liga for the first time in their history, finishing ninth in La Liga in their debut top-flight season in 2007–08 and qualifying for the UEFA Intertoto Cup. The Estadio de los Juegos Mediterráneos was filled to capacity for these historic La Liga fixtures, with the Almería community experiencing top-flight football for the first time. The club's subsequent ownership changes brought further financial instability, but Almería have repeatedly demonstrated the ability to rebuild and return to La Liga.
Almería's most recent La Liga spell (2022–24) saw them participate in top-flight Spanish football under new ownership, competing against Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Atlético in a stadium that reflects the sunny, optimistic character of this coastal Andalusian city. The club's return to La Liga 2 has maintained professional football at the Mediterranean Games stadium, with the passionate Almería community continuing to support a club that has become a symbol of the city's modern development and sporting ambitions. The stadium's excellent facilities and perfect southern Spanish weather make it one of La Liga 2's more pleasant venues to visit.
