Sevilla

Sevilla Futbol Club was founded on 25 January 1890, making it one of the oldest football clubs in Spain and indeed in Europe. Based in the Andalusian capital of Seville, the club has long been one of the most passionate and culturally significant in Spanish football. Sevilla play their home matches at the Estadio Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan, a fervent and atmospheric ground that bears the name of one of the club's greatest former presidents. The fierce local rivalry with Real Betis — known as the "Derbi Sevillano" — is considered one of the most intense derbies in world football.

While Sevilla have won 1 La Liga title (in 1946) and several Copa del Rey trophies, their modern legacy is built above all on their extraordinary success in the UEFA Cup and Europa League. The club has won the competition a record seven times: in 2006, 2007, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2020, and 2023 — making them the most successful club in the history of Europe's second-tier club competition. Their three consecutive UEFA Cup victories between 2006 and 2007 under manager Juande Ramos were unprecedented, and their later Europa League successes under Unai Emery (three titles) and then under Julen Lopetegui added to an astonishing continental record.

Sevilla have produced and attracted a host of legendary players over the years. Local hero Jesus Navas has been one of the most beloved figures in the club's history, serving the team with distinction in multiple spells. Forwards such as Frederic Kanoute, Diego Forlan, Ivan Rakitic, and Dani Alves — who left for Barcelona — all had memorable stints at the club. Their sporting director Monchi became internationally renowned for his talent identification and transfer market acumen, helping Sevilla punch well above their financial weight for decades.

In recent years, Sevilla have remained a fixture in the upper half of La Liga and a regular participant in the Champions League group stages. Their 2023 Europa League triumph — their seventh — came under manager Jose Luis Mendilibar and served as a remarkable story of a mid-season managerial change leading to European glory. The club continues to blend shrewd recruitment with strong development of young talent, ensuring their status as one of Spain's most consistent and ambitious clubs.
