Philips Stadion
The Philips Stadion is the proud home of PSV Eindhoven, located at Frederiklaan 10a in Eindhoven, North Brabant. The stadium holds 36,500 spectators and has been PSV's home since 1913, when the ground was established by Philips NV, the global electronics and lighting company that founded the club. The current structure represents successive phases of development and modernisation across more than a century of continuous use. Named after the Philips company that remains closely associated with PSV and with Eindhoven's identity, the stadium is the largest in the Netherlands outside Amsterdam.
PSV Eindhoven are one of the most successful clubs in Dutch football, with 25 Eredivisie titles and a remarkable European Cup victory in 1988, when they defeated Benfica on penalties in the Stuttgart final with a squad including Ruud Gullit, Ronald Koeman, Wim Kieft, and Hans van Breukelen. That triumph, achieved in the same year as the Netherlands' European Championship victory, represented Dutch football's finest hour and made the Philips Stadion a celebrated venue across Europe. The stadium has hosted Champions League group stage and knockout football regularly and has seen world-class players including Romario, Ronaldo Nazario, Arjen Robben, Ruud van Nistelrooy, and Kevin De Bruyne develop their careers in Eindhoven.
The Philips Stadion has been progressively modernised, with the most recent significant renovation completed in 1999 transforming it into a fully covered, all-seater UEFA-grade venue. The south stand is the most vocal section of the ground, housing PSV's active supporter groups who generate an intense atmosphere for European competition. PSV's Champions League campaigns in recent years, including quarter-final appearances, have brought elite European football back to Eindhoven on a consistent basis. The stadium's compact design creates excellent sight lines from all four covered stands, and its central urban location makes it one of the Netherlands' most accessible and well-attended football venues.
