Medical Park Stadyumu

Trabzon, Trabzon Giresun Yolu, Akyaz 40,782 capacity

The Medical Park Stadyumu is the modern home of Trabzonspor, located on the Trabzon-Giresun road in the Akyazi district of Trabzon, on the eastern Black Sea coast of Turkey. The stadium holds 40,782 spectators and opened in 2016, replacing the historic Huseyin Avni Aker Stadium that had served the club since 1962 and was demolished to make way for the new venue. Named after Medical Park hospital group through a commercial arrangement, the ground was built on a hillside overlooking the Black Sea, providing one of Turkish football's most dramatic natural settings. The colosseum-inspired architecture and the sea view from the upper tiers make it one of Turkey's finest purpose-built football venues.

Trabzonspor are the most successful club in Turkish football outside the three Istanbul giants of Galatasaray, Fenerbahce, and Besiktas, having won six Super Lig titles and multiple cups. The club's most celebrated era was in the late 1970s and early 1980s when they dominated Turkish football with a team including Cemil Turan, Necmi Cankut, and the legendary Abdullah Ercan. Their most recent title in 2021-22, ending the Istanbul clubs' dominance for the first time in many years, provoked scenes of extraordinary celebration on the Black Sea coast and established a new generation of Trabzonspor heroes. The club has also competed in European competition including Champions League qualifying and UEFA Cup campaigns.

The Medical Park Stadyumu generates passionate and intense support from Trabzon's fiercely loyal Black Sea community. Trabzonspor are unusual among Turkish clubs in that their fanbase is concentrated in a specific geographic region rather than spread nationally, giving them an almost tribal community intensity that visiting clubs find uniquely challenging. The Black Sea coast's rugged landscape, the region's distinct cultural identity, and the passionate football tradition of Trabzon make the stadium one of Turkish football's most atmospheric venues. The sea views from the stadium's upper levels and the surrounding landscape add a natural grandeur to matchdays that few Turkish grounds can match.
